Dr. Nishi Sharma
I did my MBBS from SNMC Agra in 1977. I always wanted to serve in a small town so I choose my own town Jahangirabad, where there was no proper facility to conduct delivery, and the nearest facility for delivery was in Bulandshahr which was around 35 km from there.
Also there was no surgeon or anaesthesiologist available at that point of time. In that period of time home delivery was the norm and I got cases only when complications developed. So for 20yrs I delivered normally fair no. of transverse lie, breech, obstructed labour, APH, PPH and retained placenta.
In addition there were collapsed inevitable abortions to handle. Apart from gynae I had to double up as paediatrician and physician too. As there was no ultrasound, all diagnosis was clinical. It was tough especially in ruptured uterus cases. All in all had a rich experience. I got to see every anomaly mentioned in our book Mcgregors. Did a fair no of minor surgeries too. Repair of complete perineal tear, stitching of radial and dorsalispedis artery, uterine inversion, etc.
After 20yrs intensive Obs & gynae practice I did ultrasound training in 1996. Soon shifted to only gynae especially infertility and had a good successful pregnancy rate.
Having worked 39yrs thus hung up my boots. Joined district hospital in Jan 2016, as ultrasonologist in female hospital. Finally became a part time Senior consultant in Ameyash Hospital since Dec 2017........
